Conducting polymer based active catheter for OCT imaging application

Project Description

My research is aimed at developing a medical device to be inserted inside the body cavity, duct or vessels, for diagnosing and treating tissue diseases. The design is a miniature tube with artificial muscle units “smart catheter”, which can manoeuver through the vessels and monitor the health of internal tissues. The smart catheter is equipped with an optical fiber connected to an imaging instrument. The imaging instrument utilizes optical coherence tomography (OCT) technique to generate high resolution volumetric images by scanning the optical fiber along the tissue surfaces. The result of this project will pave the way for developing a new endoscopic technology.
