Abstract:

We demonstrated the first VCSEL to VCSEL injection locking and its transmission performance improvement over standard SMF-28 fiber at 2.5 Gb/s. The required injection power from the source VCSEL is only 30 mu W. Transmission improvement for injection locking is attributed to the chirp reduction of the injection locked VCSEL when the wavelength and power of the injected light are properly selected. This technique has the potential to provide a low cost and non-intrusive upgrade of existing transmission systems. (4 References).
